Interlink Health Services Data Breach Details

On June 17, 2024, INTERLINK detected suspicious activity in an employee’s email account, prompting an immediate investigation with the help of third-party cybersecurity experts. The investigation revealed that an unauthorized actor had accessed the email account between June 15 and June 17, 2024, specifically searching for terms like “ACH” and “wire transfer.” While the primary focus appeared to be financial transactions, some emails containing sensitive information may have been viewed or downloaded.

According to INTERLINK, the unauthorized access was confined to a single email account, and the company’s broader data and network systems remained uncompromised. However, after a thorough review completed on December 16, 2024, experts determined that protected health information (PHI) linked to certain accounts was exposed.

The compromised emails contained email communications and claim attachments. INTERLINK confirmed that no financial account information or passwords were included in the breach. While there is no evidence of misuse, the company is notifying affected individuals out of an abundance of caution.

To support those potentially impacted, INTERLINK is offering free access to Experian credit monitoring services for one year.

How to Know if You Were Affected

If you received a data breach notification from Via Credit Union, your personal information may have been compromised. While most victims are officially notified through a “Notice of Data Breach” in the mail, the consequences—such as fraudulent transactions and identity theft—can begin long before the notice arrives.

Steps to Take if You Were Affected by the Interlink Health Services Data Breach

Stay Alert for Phishing Scams
Scammers may exploit the data breach by posing as Via Credit Union. Be cautious of unexpected emails, texts, or calls requesting personal information. When in doubt, verify communications directly with the company through official channels.

Monitor Your Credit and Financial Accounts
Regularly check your bank statements, credit card activity, and credit reports for unauthorized transactions. Set up account alerts to detect suspicious activity early. Take advantage of free credit reports and review them carefully for unfamiliar accounts or discrepancies.

Consider Freezing Your Credit
For added security, request a credit freeze from all three major credit bureaus. This prevents new accounts from being opened in your name while still allowing you to use existing credit. You can temporarily lift the freeze when necessary if applying for credit.
