Details of the New Era Life Insurance Company Data Breach
NEEI detected suspicious activity in its IT network on December 18, 2024, prompting an immediate response. Systems were isolated, and a third-party cybersecurity firm was engaged to investigate. It was found that an unauthorized party accessed the network from December 9 to December 18, 2024, and copied certain files.
On January 31, 2025, NEEI confirmed that personal information was compromised, affecting Maine residents who are policyholders, beneficiaries, independent agents, and employees. The number of affected individuals remains undisclosed, but NEEI is notifying impacted parties and enhancing its security measures.
NEEI is also offering a complimentary one-year membership to Experian IdentityWorks℠ for identity theft protection and monitoring to affected individuals.
