Oral Roberts University Data Breach Details
The incident involved unauthorized access to ORU’s systems, during which data was taken over a three-day period from December 15 to December 17, 2024. Upon detecting the breach, ORU immediately took steps to secure its network and launched a comprehensive investigation. ORU determined that an unauthorized actor accessed and removed certain files from its systems. A thorough review of the stolen data revealed that personal details, including names and Social Security numbers, were compromised.
On February 19, 2025, ORU began notifying affected individuals via mail, providing details on the breach and resources for identity protection.
Additionally, ORU is offering complimentary identity protection services to affected individuals through Experian IdentityWorksSM. This service includes:
- Identity theft monitoring and alerts
- Assistance in detecting potential misuse of personal information
- Support for immediate resolution of identity theft issues

- Personal Information (names, addresses, and other identifying details)
- Protected Health Information (PHI) for individuals receiving healthcare services
- Social Security Numbers (SSNs) in some cases
