Data Breach Summary
On September 18, 2024, SAG-AFTRA Health Plan learned that an employee’s email account had been compromised as a result of a phishing email. The unauthorized access occurred between September 17, 2024, and September 18, 2024. Upon discovering the incident, we acted swiftly to contain and remediate the issue. With the assistance of third-party cybersecurity experts, we launched an investigation to determine the scope of the breach. Our findings revealed that a single employee’s email account was accessed, but our primary systems remained secure. On October 3, 2024, they confirmed that the compromised email account contained personal information related to some Plan participants. Law enforcement has been notified, and the investigation is ongoing.

What Information Was Involved?
The investigation determined that the compromised email account contained emails and attachments used for administrative purposes. These included participants’ names and Social Security numbers. In some cases, the information may have also included details related to health insurance claims and participant identification numbers.
