Cumberland County Hospital (CCH) has announced a data security incident that may have exposed some personal information of individuals. The hospital takes the protection and proper use of its patients’ and individuals’ data very seriously. In response to the breach, CCH has issued a substitute notice to explain the incident, the actions being taken, and resources available for affected individuals.

Cumberland County Hospital Data Breach Details

On April 3, 2025, CCH discovered unauthorized access by a third party to its computer system. In response, the hospital immediately shut down all computers, disabled data-sharing connections, contacted law enforcement, and began an investigation. CCH’s IT team worked diligently with external cybersecurity experts to secure the system, investigate the breach, and implement additional security measures to prevent future incidents.

The breach occurred between February 21, 2025, and April 3, 2025, and involved unauthorized access to non-medical files within the hospital’s system. Fortunately, the electronic medical records system, which CCH uses to record and bill for patient care, was not involved in this incident.

To assist those affected by the breach, CCH has secured the services of Kroll, a global leader in risk mitigation and response, to offer free identity monitoring services for 12 months. These services are available to all affected individuals and are designed to help monitor for potential misuse of personal data.

CCH began mailing notifications to the affected individuals on June 2, 2025. However, not all addresses were available, so a substitute notice is being posted on the hospital’s website to ensure that everyone is informed.
