Data Breach Summary
Velocity Risk Underwriters, LLC (“Velocity”) has confirmed a data breach involving its former third-party vendor, WaterStreet Company, that potentially compromised the personal information of 41,270 individuals, including 19 Maine residents. The cybersecurity incident, which occurred on March 17, 2025, affected data hosted on behalf of Velocity, a Nashville-based insurance firm.
The incident was discovered exactly one year later, on March 17, 2026, after WaterStreet detected suspicious activity in its environment. Upon detection, WaterStreet immediately shut down the affected systems and launched a detailed investigation with cybersecurity specialists to assess the full scope of the breach.
Subsequent investigations confirmed that an unauthorized individual had gained access to certain files during the original breach event. By June 26, 2025, the company had completed a review to identify impacted individuals and affected data types.
At this time, there is no evidence suggesting that personal data has been misused as a direct result of the breach.
To assist those potentially impacted, WaterStreet is offering 12 months of complimentary credit monitoring services. Impacted individuals will receive enrollment details and advice on protective measures, including placing fraud alerts, credit freezes, and obtaining free credit reports.
If your personal information has been breached, it’s important to take immediate and proactive steps to minimize the potential impact and protect yourself from identity theft or fraud. Here are some general actions that you should consider taking:
Monitor Credit Reports: Check your credit reports regularly for suspicious activity.
Place a Fraud Alert or Credit Freeze: Set up a fraud alert or freeze your credit to prevent unauthorized access.
Monitor Financial Accounts: Review bank and credit card statements for unfamiliar transactions.
Watch for Phishing Scams: Be cautious of unsolicited requests for personal information.
Change Passwords: Update passwords for online accounts and use strong, unique ones.
