The City of Miami Beach recently experienced a data breach impacting the privacy of certain utility customers’ personal information. On September 3, 2024, the City of Miami Beach discovered that an archive folder containing customer information was mistakenly placed in a publicly accessible folder within their document management system. Upon learning of the incident, the City immediately removed the folder from public access, secured the data, and launched an investigation. Although there is no evidence of unauthorized access, the City of Miami Beach could not completely rule out the possibility and is notifying affected individuals as a precaution.
