Data Breach Summary
Doctors’ Memorial Hospital (DMH) is notifying patients about a significant data security incident involving its debt collection provider, Nationwide Recovery Services, Inc. (NRS). The cyberattack, which occurred in July 2024, may have compromised the personal and medical information of individuals, and DMH is now in the process of informing those affected.
In July 2024, Nationwide Recovery Services experienced a cyberattack that targeted its IT network. The breach, which took place between July 5 and July 11, 2024, led to unauthorized access by an external party. During this time, certain files containing sensitive information were copied from NRS’s systems. It wasn’t until February 7, 2025, that NRS informed Doctors’ Memorial Hospital about the potential impact on DMH patients.
The breach was not immediately communicated to DMH, leaving a seven-month delay in notifying affected individuals. After much delay, NRS provided DMH with a list of affected patients on May 27, 2025. DMH is now working to notify those impacted.
The personal data that may have been exposed varies for each individual, but it includes potentially sensitive information such as:
First and last name
Date of birth
Social Security number
Financial account details
Medical information
It is important to note that the breach did not involve any direct compromise to Doctors’ Memorial Hospital’s internal systems, and patients’ access to care has not been impacted.
