Data Breach Summary
Langdon & Company LLP, a certified public accounting firm specializing in tax preparation and auditing, has disclosed a data breach involving sensitive information belonging to patients of Easterseals North Carolina & Virginia. The incident occurred after unauthorized parties accessed and exfiltrated files from Langdon’s network earlier this year.
According to Langdon, suspicious activity was detected on its network on April 28, 2024. The firm immediately engaged cybersecurity experts to investigate and secure its systems. The investigation revealed that between April 21 and April 28, 2024, certain files were removed without authorization.
A comprehensive review determined that some of the compromised files contained patient data received from Easterseals as part of Langdon’s accounting and financial services. The review process—required to verify which documents were affected and to identify the individuals involved—was completed in early June 2025, with Easterseals notified of the findings on June 3, 2025.
While there is currently no evidence of misuse of the affected information, Langdon says it acted “out of an abundance of caution” to notify potentially impacted individuals.
The data exposed in the breach varied by individual but may have included:
Full names and addresses
Dates of birth
Social Security numbers
Taxpayer Identification numbers
Financial account details
Medical and health insurance information
Digital signatures
If you received a notification about the breach, you may want to explore your legal options. Langdon & Company failure to protect sensitive patient data has potentially exposed individuals to identity theft and other risks.
