Data Breach Summary
Compassion Health Care, Inc. (“CHC”) recently discovered a data breach involving unauthorized access to sensitive patient and employee/vendor information stored on its computer systems. The incident has raised concerns about potential fraud and identity theft, prompting CHC to take immediate action to protect those affected. Affected individuals are encouraged to remain vigilant and take proactive steps to safeguard their information.
On March 17, 2025, CHC detected suspicious activity on its network that caused a network interruption. Upon learning of the event, the company quickly launched an investigation with the help of an external cybersecurity firm to assess the scope and nature of the unauthorized access.
By March 21, 2025, CHC confirmed that an unauthorized third party may have viewed and/or downloaded data from its systems, including sensitive patient and employee/vendor information.
On May 16, 2025, Compassion Health Care sent written notifications to all patients, employees, and vendors potentially impacted for whom they have contact information. To help safeguard those affected, CHC arranged complimentary credit monitoring and identity theft restoration services through HaystackID.
The compromised data potentially includes:
For patients: names, addresses, phone numbers, dates of birth or ages, Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, health insurance details, claims information, and clinical or diagnostic information related to medical services provided by CHC-affiliated healthcare providers.
For employees and vendors: names, addresses, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, income information, financial account details, and possibly bank account and routing numbers.
Following the breach, Compassion Health Care faces potential class-action lawsuits from customers alleging negligence in protecting personal data. Data breach lawsuits often claim companies failed to implement adequate security measures or delayed disclosure of breaches, thereby increasing victims’ risk of financial and identity theft damages.
Affected users may be entitled to compensation for costs related to identity monitoring, fraudulent transactions, lost time addressing the breach, and emotional distress.
