Iannuzzi, Manetta & Co., PC, and its wholly owned subsidiary, Iannuzzi & Darling L.L.C. (“the Company”), have reported a significant cybersecurity incident affecting 25,845 individuals, including 6 residents of Maine. The breach was discovered on December 17, 2024, but it is believed to have occurred as early as July 15, 2024.
The Company, which provides tax, accounting, and auditing services, discovered that its network was encrypted by unknown attackers on August 1, 2024. The breach resulted in a complete shutdown of the company’s operations and access to its servers. In response, the Company’s IT team immediately shut down its network and brought in third-party forensic and legal experts to assist with the investigation and remediation.
The forensic investigation revealed that the attackers had gained access to client data within the company’s network, and the full extent of the breach was not known until November 18, 2024. The company took immediate steps to contain the breach, restore the network by August 8, 2024, and implemented additional security measures to prevent similar incidents in the future. Law enforcement, including the FBI, was notified of the incident.
