Details of the KraftCPAs Data Breach
Following the discovery of the incident, KraftCPAs immediately disconnected all access to its network, changed administrative credentials, and restored operations in a secure mode. Enhanced security measures have been implemented, and the firm is continuing to take additional steps to mitigate the risk of future incidents.
KraftCPAs encourages affected individuals to remain vigilant and take proactive measures to protect themselves against identity theft and fraud. Additionally, individuals can request an Identity Protection PIN from the IRS to prevent unauthorized filings. Instructions for obtaining the PIN are available on the IRS website.
For those whose Social Security numbers may have been compromised, KraftCPAs advises immediate action in the event of tax-related identity theft. The IRS has outlined several steps, including responding to IRS notices and submitting a completed Form 14039, Identity Theft Affidavit, to help protect against misuse.
To further support clients, KraftCPAs is offering complimentary credit monitoring and identity theft restoration services through HaystackID. The firm is covering the cost of these services, but affected individuals must activate the services within 90 days of receiving the notification letters.
