Liberty First Credit Union recently experienced a data security incident that may have involved certain personal information, affecting approximately 52,496 individuals, including four Maine residents. The breach occurred on September 17, 2024, and was discovered on October 21, 2024, during a thorough investigation.
The investigation revealed that certain files may have been accessed and acquired by the unauthorized party. Importantly, this breach was limited to a portion of the internal network and did not affect banking, online banking, or payment systems. Affected individuals are encouraged to activate their complimentary credit monitoring service and monitor their financial accounts for suspicious activity. What Information Was Involved?
On September 24, 2024, Liberty First determined that the unauthorized party may have acquired files containing some individuals’ personal information. A subsequent review on October 21, 2024, confirmed that the compromised files did not include online banking credentials or debit card numbers.
