Have you been affected by American Payroll Institute Inc., operating as PayrollOrg's data breach?

American Payroll Institute Inc., operating as PayrollOrg (“PAYO”), recently informed the New Hampshire Attorney General of a data security breach that may have compromised personal information. PAYO is a non-profit organization committed to educating clients on payroll industry standards.

On October 8, 2024, PayrollOrg identified unusual activity within its systems. In response, PayrollOrg initiated an investigation, which included engaging external cyber forensic experts and notifying federal law enforcement. While the initial investigation concluded on November 14, 2024, the review of potentially compromised files continued. With expert assistance, PayrollOrg determined that an unauthorized third party accessed and encrypted PayrollOrg’s systems, possibly obtaining files containing employee and contractor information between September 18, 2024, and October 8, 2024.

After completing a thorough review of the files on December 10, 2024, PayrollOrg confirmed that certain employee and contractor data was included in the compromised files.

Although there is currently no evidence to suggest that identity theft or fraud has occurred due to this incident, individuals linked to PayrollOrg are encouraged to take precautions. To minimize potential risks, it is advisable to regularly monitor financial statements, update passwords, and remain vigilant against unsolicited communications, such as phishing attempts.
