Data Breach Summary
On February 3, 2024, Pi Kappa Phi discovered unauthorized access to its network, potentially compromising personal information of certain individuals. Following the breach, the organization immediately launched an investigation to assess the scope of the incident. The breach, which occurred between January 26 and February 3, 2024, impacted a total of 1,641 individuals, including two residents of Maine.
Upon identifying the breach, Pi Kappa Phi promptly secured its systems and engaged external cybersecurity professionals experienced in addressing such incidents. A thorough forensic investigation and manual review were conducted, and on November 21, 2024, it was confirmed that certain files containing personal information may have been accessed and removed by unauthorized individuals.
To date, there have been no reports of identity fraud or misuse of the affected information. However, out of an abundance of caution, Pi Kappa Phi is notifying individuals and offering a complimentary membership to IDX’s identity theft protection services.
