A recent data breach at Universal Pegasus International LLC (UPI), a Houston-based organization, has exposed sensitive information of 17,521 individuals, including 6,113 Texans and 17 Maine residents. The breach occurred on June 13, 2023, and was detected the following day, June 14, 2023. This sophisticated network security incident resulted in unauthorized access to personal information, including Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, government-issued ID numbers, financial information, and health insurance information.
UPI promptly contained the breach and launched a thorough investigation with the assistance of third-party cybersecurity professionals. These experts worked to determine the nature and scope of the incident and assess whether personal information was accessed or acquired.
Following an extensive manual review, UPI confirmed on November 19, 2024, that certain files accessed during the incident contained sensitive personal information.
