Coleman Professional Services has agreed to a $950,000 class action settlement following a 2023 data breach exposing patient and employee data. Discover if you qualify for cash payouts, credit monitoring, or loss reimbursement before the October 2026 deadline.
Approximately 51,889 individuals whose sensitive personal or medical information was exposed in a 2023 data breach involving Coleman Professional Services, Inc. can now file a claim for cash compensation, credit monitoring, and reimbursement for out-of-pocket financial losses.
The class action settlement resolves claims surrounding a cyber incident that occurred between September 18 and October 31, 2023. According to the lawsuit, one or more unauthorized individuals accessed internal email accounts at Coleman Professional Services, potentially exposing sensitive files belonging to thousands of patients and staff members.
The lawsuit, Armstrong, et al. v. Coleman Professional Services, Inc. (Case No. 2024CV00139), was filed in the Portage County Common Pleas Court in Ohio. Plaintiffs alleged that Coleman failed to maintain reasonable cybersecurity safeguards, leaving highly personal information vulnerable to hackers.
Coleman denies any wrongdoing or liability, and the court has not ruled on who is correct. Instead, both parties agreed to a $950,000 compromise to bring an end to the ongoing litigation.
The compromised email accounts contained extensive personal and medical records. Depending on your relationship with Coleman, the exposed data may include:
Basic Personal Identifiers: Full names, dates of birth, driver’s license numbers, and state-issued ID numbers.
Government Identifiers: Social Security numbers.
Financial Details: Financial account numbers and payment information.
Protected Health Information: Medical treatment and diagnosis information, patient identification numbers, and health insurance details.
When sensitive healthcare data and Social Security numbers are exposed, individuals face a heightened risk of identity theft, medical fraud, and financial scams.
Healthcare providers and behavioral health organizations carry a high duty of care under state and federal frameworks to safeguard patient information. When a health provider experiences a cyber incident, affected individuals often face stress, financial outlay for credit monitoring, and the risk of fraudulent tax returns or unauthorized medical billing.
Class action lawsuits provide a mechanism for everyday people to demand financial compensation and push institutions toward stronger cybersecurity protocols. Through this settlement, affected consumers can claim financial recovery without filing an individual lawsuit.
You may be eligible to receive compensation if you meet the following criteria:
You are a United States resident.
Your private information was implicated in the Coleman Professional Services data incident that occurred between September 18 and October 31, 2023.

The settlement class covers approximately 51,889 individuals.
Eligible class members can choose from multiple compensation options, depending on their personal situation:
Estimated $70 Cash Payment: All class members can claim an estimated cash payment of roughly $70 without needing to submit proof of loss. This baseline cash distribution comes directly from the settlement fund and may be increased or decreased pro-rata depending on the total number of valid claims submitted.
Up to $5,000 in Out-of-Pocket Loss Reimbursement: If you experienced actual financial harm, fraud, or out-of-pocket expenses directly traceable to the data incident, you can claim up to $5,000. Coverable expenses include unreimbursed identity theft losses, credit repair fees, costs to freeze or unfreeze credit reports, notary/postage fees, and up to unpaid time off work (calculated at your hourly rate) spent resolving issues related to the breach. Documented proof—such as bank statements, receipts, or credit reports—is required for this tier.
Credit Monitoring and Identity Protection: Class members can also elect to receive one year of free three-bureau credit monitoring and identity theft protection services.
You can claim the basic cash payment or out-of-pocket reimbursement in addition to enrolling in the credit monitoring service.
