Lemonade, Inc. and Lemonade Insurance Agency have agreed to a class action settlement resolving allegations that personal details—including driver’s license numbers—were exposed through the company’s online insurance quotation platform between April 2023 and September 18, 2024 (In re Lemonade, Inc. Data Disclosure Litigation).
Lemonade Insurance Agency and Lemonade, Inc. have agreed to a class action settlement following allegations that personal information, including driver’s license numbers, was exposed through the company’s online insurance quotation platform between April 2023 and September 18, 2024. If you received a data exposure notice from Lemonade in April 2025 or June 2025, you may be eligible to submit a claim for cash benefits and access credit monitoring services.
The lawsuit, titled In re Lemonade, Inc. Data Disclosure Litigation, was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York under Case No. 1:25-cv-04106-JHR-KHP. Plaintiffs in the case alleged that Lemonade failed to properly safeguard consumer personal information entered into its digital quotation system.
According to court filings, an unauthorized data incident allowed sensitive consumer details—such as driver’s license numbers and other personal identifiers—to be accessed or disclosed without authorization. While Lemonade has agreed to the class action settlement to resolve the claims and avoid the expense of prolonged litigation, the company has denied all allegations of wrongdoing and liability.
You may be eligible to participate in the settlement as a class member if you received a formal notice from Lemonade informing you that your personal information was compromised during the data incident involving its online insurance quote platform between April 2023 and September 18, 2024.
Specifically, the settlement class consists of individuals who were sent written data exposure notices by Lemonade in April 2025 or June 2025. If you received one of these notices, your legal rights are directly affected by the terms of the settlement agreement.
Settlement class members have access to two primary types of relief under the agreement: cash benefits and credit protection services.
Credit Monitoring and Insurance Services (CMIS): Every verified class member is entitled to receive complimentary credit monitoring and identity protection services. You do not need to file a claim form to receive this benefit; activation details will be made available once the court grants final approval to the settlement.
Cash Settlement Benefits: Class members who want to receive cash payments must submit a valid and timely claim form before the court-ordered deadline. The final payout amounts will depend on the total number of valid claims filed across the class.
Data privacy laws across the United States require commercial entities and insurance providers to maintain robust technical and administrative safeguards when collecting sensitive personal identifiers. When you fill out an online quote for auto or property insurance, you share private details—such as your driver’s license number, home address, and date of birth—with the expectation that the platform is secure.
When a security incident exposes these identifiers, individuals face an elevated risk of identity theft, unauthorized account creation, and fraudulent transactions. Class action litigation allows everyday consumers to band together, hold large corporations accountable for security failures, and secure remedies for compromised personal data.
If you wish to receive cash benefits or take other actions regarding the settlement, you must keep the following key dates in mind:
August 7, 2026 – Opt-Out Deadline: If you wish to exclude yourself from the settlement to retain the right to sue Lemonade individually, your written request for exclusion must be postmarked by this date.
August 7, 2026 – Objection Deadline: If you remain in the settlement class but wish to object to its terms, your written objection must be filed with the court and postmarked by this date.
September 8, 2026 – Claim Filing Deadline: To receive a cash payment, you must complete and submit your claim form online by 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time or mail a paper claim form postmarked by September 8, 2026.
September 10, 2026 – Final Approval Hearing: The court will hold a hearing at the Daniel Patrick Moynihan U.S. Courthouse in New York, NY, to determine whether to grant final approval to the settlement deal.
