Night US Agrees to $8.16 Million Settlement Over Alleged Fake Mattress Discounts for California Shoppers

Parent company Night US, LLC agreed to an $8,163,000 class action settlement to resolve allegations that it deceptively advertised mattresses at fake original prices across its e-commerce sites (Leesa.com, BrooklynBedding.com, HelixSleep.com, and BearMattress.com) to simulate artificial savings.

California consumers who purchased a mattress online from Leesa, Brooklyn Bedding, Helix Sleep, or Bear Mattress may be entitled to cash or store credit following an $8.16 million class action settlement. Plaintiffs allege parent company Night US, LLC deceptive advertised discounts by listing fake “original” prices that were never actually charged.

Night US Agrees to $8.16 Million Settlement Over Deceptive Mattress Discounts

Night US, LLC, the parent company behind major direct-to-consumer bed brands including Leesa, Brooklyn Bedding, Helix Sleep, and Bear Mattress, has agreed to pay $8,163,000 to resolve a class action lawsuit. The lawsuit claims that the mattress manufacturer engaged in misleading pricing tactics across its family of popular e-commerce websites.

According to court filings, the lawsuit alleges that Night US displayed fake original prices to create the illusion of dramatic savings. When shoppers visited the company’s websites, they were shown “regular” prices alongside promotional discount offers. However, plaintiffs contend that these regular reference prices were artificially inflated and were rarely, if ever, the actual prices charged for the products.

While Night US denies all allegations of wrongdoing and maintains that its marketing practices were entirely lawful, the company agreed to the $8.16 million payout to avoid the cost, burden, and uncertainty of continued court litigation. The proposed deal received preliminary approval from a California state court judge on June 26, 2026. The agreement creates an opportunity for tens of thousands of California customers to claim financial compensation or retail credit vouchers for mattresses bought during specific promotional windows.

How Alleged Fake Reference Prices Misled Mattress Shoppers

False reference pricing—sometimes called strike-through pricing—occurs when a retailer advertises a product with a higher “original” price next to a lower “sale” price. The goal is to make consumers feel they are getting a temporary bargain, encouraging them to buy before the deal disappears. In reality, when the higher reference price is fictitious, shoppers are tricked into making purchases based on fake savings.

In the case of Grossman, et al. v. Night US LLC, et al. (Case No. 26CU017232N), filed in the Superior Court of California for San Diego County, plaintiffs argued that Night US built its online marketing strategy around continuous sale prices. The lawsuit asserts that customers were led to believe they were receiving steep markdowns on mattresses sold on Leesa.com, BrooklynBedding.com, HelixSleep.com, and BearMattress.com.

Court records indicate that during the designated class periods, consumers bought approximately 74,212 mattresses advertised at alleged fake discounts. For everyday people trying to stretch their household budgets, buying a mattress is a significant financial investment. Class Action U advocates for full transparency so consumers receive genuine value rather than deceptive sales pressure.

California Consumer Protection Laws at the Center of the Lawsuit

California maintains some of the nation’s strictest consumer safety and fair trade statutes designed to protect shoppers from predatory retail practices. The lawsuit against Night US alleges violations of three foundational state laws: the California Unfair Competition Law, the California Consumers Legal Remedies Act, and the California False Advertising Law.

Under California law, it is illegal for sellers to advertise a former price unless that price was the prevailing market price within three months preceding the publication of the ad, or unless the ad clearly specifies when the former price was offered. Promising fake discounts deprives consumers of honest comparative shopping information and harms fair competition by undercutting businesses that quote straightforward prices.

Lawsuits like this one are critical because individual consumers rarely have the time or resources to take on corporate legal teams over a few hundred dollars. Class action lawsuits allow everyday people to unite their claims, hold companies accountable, and ensure that major manufacturers face consequences when they violate fair advertising standards.

Are You Eligible for a Cash Payment or Store Credit Voucher?

You may be eligible to benefit from this settlement if you purchased one or more discounted mattresses online while physically located in California or as a resident of the state during specific timeframe windows. Because Night US operates multiple mattress storefronts, the eligibility cutoff dates vary depending on which brand’s website you used:

  • Leesa.com: Purchases made between July 28, 2019, and March 11, 2024.

  • BrooklynBedding.com: Purchases made between Sept. 5, 2020, and March 31, 2024.

  • HelixSleep.com: Purchases made between Oct. 2, 2020, and March 31, 2024.

  • BearMattress.com: Purchases made between June 4, 2021, and April 1, 2024.

To qualify, the mattress must have been advertised at a discount at the time of purchase. You do not need to locate paper receipts if you still have access to the email address or order number associated with your purchase. The official settlement administrator will cross-reference your submitted claim details against company transaction records to verify your eligibility.

$110 Per Mattress: Understanding Your Cash and Voucher Options

Under the terms of the settlement, class members are entitled to receive $110 for each qualifying mattress purchased during the eligibility period. The agreement provides two distinct relief options depending on whether you complete a claim form:

  • Cash Payment ($110 per mattress): If you submit a valid claim form online or by mail before the deadline, you will receive a direct cash payment of $110 for each qualifying mattress order.

  • Store Credit Voucher ($110 per mattress): If you qualify as a class member but do not file a claim form, you will automatically receive a $110 store credit voucher per qualifying mattress.

The store credit vouchers come with favorable terms for consumers. They are valid for up to three years from the date of issuance, can be combined with other promotional sales or discounts, are fully stackable, and can even be transferred to friends or family members. Each voucher is valid on the specific website where you made your original mattress purchase (for example, a BrooklynBedding.com purchase generates a voucher valid at BrooklynBedding.com).

Key Settlement Deadlines and How to Submit Your Claim

If you plan to participate in the Night US mattress settlement, staying mindful of upcoming court deadlines is essential. Missing a deadline could cause you to forfeit your right to choose a cash award or challenge the deal terms.

  • August 26, 2026 – Exclusion and Objection Deadline: If you wish to opt out of the settlement to retain your right to sue independently, or if you want to object to the proposed terms, your written request must be submitted by this date.

  • September 25, 2026 – Claim Filing Deadline: To receive a $110 cash payment instead of a store credit voucher, you must submit a valid claim form online or postmarked by this date.

  • October 16, 2026 – Final Approval Hearing: The court will hold a final hearing to review the agreement and decide whether to approve the settlement structure.

To file a claim online, visit the official court-approved portal at NightBBSettlement.com. You can enter the Claimant ID and Confirmation Code found on the notice sent to your email, or search using your order details. Payments and vouchers will be distributed only after the court grants final approval and resolves any potential legal appeals.
