When you fill out a form at classaction.org, you’re basically putting in your contact and background information so we can get in touch with you. We also ask you to upload a copy of your notice letter. At that point, the law firm is contacted, and a lawyer from the firm will contact each one of our clients and speak to them about their particular situation, give them as much information as we have about the breach that they may not already know, and then get a little bit more information about any experiences they’ve had from the time that the company had the breach until the time that this letter came to their mailbox.
This helps us understand whether or not they actually had any, what we call, fraud—meaning, has anybody taken out any accounts, have they gotten any spam calls, or have people been in contact with them to try to offer them credit and do things that otherwise would not have taken place but for the breach.
After we discuss this with them, if they’re a candidate for a lawsuit, we will talk to them about what it means to be a plaintiff in the lawsuit, how they can participate, and what that means going forward.
