SpotHero has agreed to a $975,000 class action settlement to resolve allegations that it used “drip pricing” to hide mandatory service fees from California consumers until checkout.
If you reserved a parking space in California through SpotHero’s website or app using the “Map View” feature, you may be eligible to receive a cash payment or automatic credit vouchers under a new $975,000 class action settlement.
The class action settlement resolves a legal battle targeting SpotHero, Inc., one of the country’s most popular digital parking reservation platforms. The lawsuit, originally filed in federal court on April 4, 2025, by consumer Edward Galvez, was subsequently moved to the Superior Court of California for San Diego County. The complaint alleged that SpotHero engaged in deceptive pricing practices by hiding the full cost of its parking reservations from consumers until the absolute end of the purchasing process.
Specifically, the lawsuit targeted how SpotHero displayed reservation costs on its website and mobile application. When users navigated the platform to locate and book parking spots, the system allegedly utilized “drip pricing.” This refers to a controversial e-commerce tactic where a company advertises a low base price initially but progressively “drips” additional, mandatory fees—such as service charges—onto the total bill as the customer clicks through the checkout screens.
By the time the consumer reaches the final payment page, the price is significantly higher than what was originally advertised. The lawsuit claimed that this pricing model systematically misled consumers and violated robust consumer protection guidelines, leaving everyday drivers to pay undisclosed fees they did not anticipate.
For most people trying to find parking in a busy city, convenience and budget are the top priorities. When a platform advertises a parking space for a specific rate, consumers expect that price to represent the actual cost of the service. Drip pricing disrupts this trust, forcing users to invest time navigating the booking screens only to be hit with unexpected fees at the very last second. Many consumers proceed with the purchase anyway, simply because they have already spent the effort setting up the transaction.
The SpotHero class action lawsuit argued that this practice is not just frustrating; it is a direct violation of state laws designed to protect public shopping experiences. Specifically, the complaint claimed SpotHero’s pricing model breached California’s Unfair Competition Law and the Consumers Legal Remedies Act. These statutes require businesses to provide clear, upfront pricing so that consumers can make fully informed purchasing decisions without being subjected to bait-and-switch pricing maneuvers.
While SpotHero has strongly denied all allegations of wrongdoing or unlawful behavior, the company agreed to establish a $975,000 settlement fund. By settling the claims, SpotHero avoids a protracted, expensive trial while establishing a clear pathway for affected users to recover money.
If you are a class member, the settlement offers two distinct pathways to receive compensation. The legal team designed the system to ensure that every single affected consumer receives a benefit, whether they actively file a claim or not.
Pro Rata Cash Payment: Class members who actively submit a timely, valid claim form can choose to receive a pro rata cash payment. The average cash payout per class member is currently estimated to be approximately $4.76. The exact amount of your check or digital payment may increase or decrease depending on the total volume of claims submitted and the average amount you paid to SpotHero in undisclosed service fees.
Automatic Credit Voucher: If you do not submit a claim form and do not opt out of the settlement, you do not lose out. Instead, you will automatically receive a credit voucher deposited directly into your SpotHero wallet. These vouchers are estimated to be worth approximately $4.76 on average and can be put toward any future SpotHero purchase—including taxes and fees—for up to 36 months after they are issued.
Vouchers can also be combined or “stacked” with other active discounts, promotional offers, or existing wallet credits. Any unused portions of the credit will remain in your account for future bookings during the three-year window.
You may be eligible to participate in the SpotHero settlement if you meet specific location and timing requirements outlined by the court’s preliminary approval order on May 29, 2026.
Specifically, the settlement class includes:
Any consumer who purchased at least one parking reservation through SpotHero.com or the SpotHero mobile app.
Individuals who made this purchase while physically located in the state of California.
Purchases made between July 1, 2024, and March 13, 2025.
Users who utilized the platform’s “Map View” option to search for and select their parking space.

To secure a direct cash payment instead of an automatic wallet credit, you must take active steps to complete a claim form. The court-approved settlement website is fully operational at SHPricingSettlement.com.
Through this portal, you can complete the process in just a few minutes. If you prefer to file your claim offline, you can download a paper claim form directly from the site, fill it out manually, and mail it to the settlement administrator.
Find the official settlement notice sent to your email or physical address. Locate the unique Notice ID and Confirmation Code printed on the document. You will need these to access the online filing portal.
Decide whether you want to file a claim for direct cash or allow your account to receive the automatic wallet credit. If choosing cash, fill out your current contact details and select your preferred delivery method (such as a check or digital payment).
Complete and submit your claim form online through SHPricingSettlement.com, or ensure your paper form is postmarked by August 25, 2026. Claims submitted after this date will not be accepted, and you will receive the credit voucher instead.
As this litigation proceeds, there are several key dates that class members must keep in mind to protect their legal rights. The court has set strict windows for consumers to decide how they wish to participate.
If you do not want to participate in the settlement—and instead wish to retain your individual right to sue SpotHero independently over these fees—you must formally exclude yourself (opt out). If you wish to object to the fairness of the deal, you must file a written objection. The deadline to submit either an exclusion request or an objection is August 4, 2026.
The court has scheduled a final approval hearing for September 18, 2026. During this hearing, the presiding judge will review the settlement terms, evaluate any consumer objections, and decide whether to officially finalize the agreement. If final approval is granted, and no legal appeals are filed, the settlement administrator will begin distributing cash payments and depositing credit vouchers shortly thereafter.
